If a person rarely uses Instagram or has had a bad experience interacting with others on the platform, it may be best to go the account deletion route. Users can get this done by going into the ‘ Settings’ page of the Instagram app, going to ‘ Account,’ and tapping ‘ Delete account.’ They can choose ‘ Deactivate account' and follow the onscreen instructions. Any accumulated posts, comments, likes, and messages can be visibly accessed once the account is reactivated by logging in again. Temporarily deactivating an Instagram account - which can only be done once per week - no matter how long the profile remains in stasis, will retain the profile's existence on the platform it will merely hide the account from followers and viewers. Both situations have the potential to be resolved short term, so in case the desire to jump back into Instagram is still there, temporary deactivation is key. It may also be an effective way to take a break from seeing things online that may be causing a negative impact on one’s mental health.

Account deactivation may suit those who spend too much time on their devices and desire to regain time for in-real-life activities.

However, not everyone necessarily wants to lose all the progress they’ve made on their personal account.

There are many legitimate reasons to want to stop using Instagram.
